Perusing the Romanian press, everything is shocking and all sources of info seem to be tabloids. Perhaps time is ripe for an overview of all the crap that’s overflowing.

I sporadically come across Dan Alexe's writings. He's a smart dude, he's courageous, and he seems to constantly be bullying "protocronists / dacologists" whom he calls "dacopaths" ("dacopati" cf Romanian original, a term most likely inspired by the derisive and pejorative “psychopaths”). I thought I deconstruct / smite him a bit.

I recently commented elsewhere on the sense of existence and even read a diaspora blog, and before I forget, I mirror here my thoughts for all the English-speaking world to marvel. If I were to summarize the teachings of this Zen piece, it’d be “survival implies constant self-deceit.”

I have recently attended the “space” / poetry / jamming session I mentioned earlier and predictably, I chose to read a poem by Marin Sorescu. I thought I present it here as well.

The video of Dr Simona Tibu's arrest and assault has recently been released (cbc-video), after a protracted legal battle. What is debatable is to what extent is this a case of police brutality / use of unnecessary and excessive force, or white female entitlement.

One of my long-term fantasies has been to write the Romanian baccalaureate (aka “bac” / “bacul” / “bacalaureat”, a comprehensive exam you write before the high-school diploma). I haven’t had the time, but I’d like to.

Romania seems increasingly divided between the “bad teeth alliance”, pro-government and protesting against the president Iohannis, and a massive, more numerous, happily protesting dancing flash mob who won’t take “corruption is bullshit” for an answer. What irks me is that in the international media coverage, so much is lost in translation.

While I am naturally a bit upset by the multiple levels of irony in this story, I have to admit I'm also quite irritated and disappointed. It appears that the German police has actively engaged in ethnic profiling at the Saxony Highfield festival, reported in the German press as "racial profiling", most likely because of the Gypsy/Roma/Romanian Confusion. Let us consider this news together with a few more concerning the diaspora.

When it comes to presidents, I prefer them quiet and subdued, but when I look back, I kept voting for the loud ones. I’m much like a woman who claims she’s looking for good guys but constantly ends up with bad boys. I’m not the only one, judging by the recent results of US elections. So I’m hurrying to finish this article, in a McDonald’s with non-working Wi-Fi, fueled by their free coffee promotion with only 30 minutes left to go. 

Citesc ca peste 70% din parintii romani isi bat copiii, unii pana la moarte. Nu s-au facut studii, dar inclin sa cred ca un procent mult mai mic isi circumcid fetele. Parintii romani par sa prefere pruncuciderea cirmcumciziei.

Munca pana la epuizare se numeste karoshi in Japonia, unde o gramada de oameni muncesc pana mor. In Romania acesta este un fenomen care a aparut relativ recent in vizorul mass-mediei, cam totodata cu fenomenul "urban". Si tot relativ recenta este aparitia cartii "Bonjour Paresse!" sau Bonjur Lene, care este practic un spoof al gramezii de carti de management scrise sa te-ajute sa inoti prin meandrele concretului.

I am EXTATIC!!!! N-am auzit de ea inainte sa fi castigat premiul Nobel, cum n-auzisem nici de francezul care a castigat in 2008, dar cu cat citesc mai mult, cu atat ma excit mai tare! E musai s-mpartasesc ce aflu cu cei 2-3 oameni care ma citesc, poate iau si eu un Hertzer sau un BlogIdol. Voi incepe sa scriu acest ghid prin a face mai mult spatiu sub birou.

A fost o vreme cand ma consideram "feminist". Am activat chiar ca "relationship counsellor" la Sexual Education Centre. Am inceput sa ma schimb. Feminismul e oricum o religie pe cale de disparitie.

Serena won and Simona lost, but this game is so much more than this result. In short it’s all a psychological thriller with some touches of physical endurance and skill, and Simona seems to have given up (video highlights: 4 min, 10 min, 34 min).
