I probably won’t be voting this year. I’m telling you about my failed attempt to register for “vote by correspondence” or “votul prin corespondenta” as well as my passport application.

I am finally going through the TestVot application and posting my results in the Scribd PDF linked below. If unclear, the elections are taking place on Sunday, November 2, 7 am – 9 pm, at the Romanian Consulate in Toronto at 555 Richmond St W, as explained in MEP elections.

The title means “Romanians vote anticorruption”, but then I realized that Romanians know what happened, it’s foreigners who might be more interested in what I have to say about it. I wish I could write a celebratory article, but I can't. Most Romanians who lined up seem to think that they are voting against corruption, but have they really?

I happened to be in the area so I decided to pay the consulate a visit, not expecting to be able to vote, but hoping to learn more info about my programmed visit for my passport renewal. I didn't waste a lot of time, but in typical Romanian fashion, someone managed to use my time with info that is likely useless.

Not only did Klaus Iohannis manage to snatch victory from the claws of the Red Menace, but he did so by a huge, devastating margin AND on the surge in voter participation not only in the diaspora, but also in our birthplace. It’s a November Christmas miracle!

Desigur, nu-i prima data cand as incepe asa ceva - am mai avut in trecut pe tema parlamentului unicameral si despre Base. Si m-am gandit c-ar fi cazul sa enunt cateva reguli, cum am facut pentru concursurile generale pentru acest blog si sa dau premii, cum am mai dat.

Iata ca dupa ce nominalizarile au luat sfarsit, am ajuns in sfarsit sa si votam. Votam, desigur, ce-am nominalizat, si cum este putin probabil ca vreo creatie romaneasca a fost nominalizata de mai multi, vom vota – in masura in care suntem interesati – numai strainezi.

It required serious formatting, but I thought it’s a free service I can provide to the second highest commenter (in terms of quantity) on this blog. My comments will be highlighted inline and concentrated at the end. 

The very recent new USR scandal featuring Andrei Caramitru and the Vice Romania “journalist” Sidonia Bogdan is both disturbing and funny. I don’t consider myself “journalist” but as a blogger I’ve asked candidates questions, with mixed results, and as a political candidate I often had to deal with incredibly idiotic interactions on Facebook, so I sort of see where Caramitru the Young is coming from as well. Let me explain.

Is it fair to give special incentive to the diaspora to return home? Doesn’t that encourage more to leave only to get the money on coming back?

Rezultatele sunt sau ar trebui sa fie binecunoscute deja: PDL a fost pedepsit de cei suparati ca le-au fost taiate salariile si pensiile, iar USL a fost rasplatit fiindca le-au marit in ciuda lipsei banilor si-n ciuda faptului ca salariile si pensiile n-au legatura cu reprezentantii locali si politica locala.

Chiar nu ma asteptam sa reuseasca CCR sa se achite atat de bine de sarcina neutralitatii si in acelasi timp sa raspunda legal si balansat samavolniciei USLasilor. Nu intentionez sa ma prezint la votul de referendum si recomand cu caldura oricui iubeste libertatea sa faca la fel si sa-si vada de concediu. Ai muncit mult ca sa traiesti bine, ai dreptul la un bine-meritat R&R.
