One of my favourite recipes from childhood was 'mazare cu carne' or green peas with some kind of meat, usually veal. As I (re)discovered two bags of frozen green peas in my freezer, I figured it's time to either revisit those or try something new.

One of my long-term fantasies has been to write the Romanian baccalaureate (aka “bac” / “bacul” / “bacalaureat”, a comprehensive exam you write before the high-school diploma). I haven’t had the time, but I’d like to.

There was a time when I considered myself vegetarian. It was easy, a very close friend was cooking while I was buying our food. These days I cook my own food and since my time is limited, I gravitate toward simple recipes. With that in mind, there's been a long time since I haven't presented a recipe here, so I'll be telling you about my favorite winter soup (which is more like a borsht), the lentil soup. Predictably, the fire at the Colectiv nightclub in Bucharest has resulted in calls for moar regulation! and a search for the culprits. Interior Minister Oprea can breathe now that the media is no longer focusing on his killing of a policeman through unnecessary, elitist motorcades. Let me explain why the requests for more regulation are misguided.

Writing about the voting experience would be way too uninteresting even for me, especially since it was straightforward and uneventful, so rather than doing just that, I’ll be telling you about how the voting went, some food I bought and my “participation” in Doors Open Toronto 2014.

One thing about population in Romania that we can all agree on is that it is in free fall. A recent article has revealed to me that, supposedly, the number of Romanians moving out of the city and into the country side is greater than the number of Romanians moving into the city.

Am inceput cu ciupercile si-a cam sosit mementul sa termin cu urzicile (nu-i vorba de almanahe, ci de succesuri bio-culinare). Adica sa-ti spun cum le-am venit de hac.

Putine sunt mancarurile din Romania pe care nu le pot gasi aici. Stateam de vorba cu cativa prieteni, majoritatea moldoveni (eu culegeam si mancam ciuperci mai mult in Bucovina), acum cateva zile si ei ar fi vrut sa mergem la cules ciuperci. Dar ciuperci gasesc la Costco de toate felurile, de la Porcini, Portabella, Shiitake si pana la Nametake (galbene) si Hiratake (oyster). O singura chestie-mi doresc si rar apuc: mancare de urzici cu usturoi si mamaliga. Dar pana acolo, hai sa vedem ce-i cu ciupercile.

I am EXTATIC!!!! N-am auzit de ea inainte sa fi castigat premiul Nobel, cum n-auzisem nici de francezul care a castigat in 2008, dar cu cat citesc mai mult, cu atat ma excit mai tare! E musai s-mpartasesc ce aflu cu cei 2-3 oameni care ma citesc, poate iau si eu un Hertzer sau un BlogIdol. Voi incepe sa scriu acest ghid prin a face mai mult spatiu sub birou.
