Whereas in English "Caracal" refers to a “medium-sized wild cat”, in Romania it’s a small town, possibly named after the long disappeared animal. Recently, what may very well be a serial killer has been arrested after some agonizing, train-wreck of a police investigation. This would be the first such criminal there in a long time.

#WTA has recently confused #Romania anti-#corruption #rezist #protest with people coming out in the streets to welcome and congratulate Simona Halep in her recent Grand Slam triumph (gsp-tnr). It’s not only foreigners not getting what’s going on, but even some of those protesting.

When it comes to presidents, I prefer them quiet and subdued, but when I look back, I kept voting for the loud ones. I’m much like a woman who claims she’s looking for good guys but constantly ends up with bad boys. I’m not the only one, judging by the recent results of US elections. Despite having better things to do and write about, a recent article published by Deutsche Welle annoyed me enough to get me to write about the non-debate happening in USA and discuss abortion.

Now that the European results are known and Euroscepticism discussed, after a short detour through Canadian visas for Romanians, we will finally take a look at the Romanian politics.

Today I met another European woman. Originally from Spain, she told me she worked in the Czech Republic for a while as a translator. Upon learning I'm Romanian, she also felt the need to share with me that there were "a lot of Romanians" in the Czech Republic who wanted to come to Canada but couldn't, because there is no visa treaty. When I told her that there were some problems here with Czech Roma getting visa through fraud and the visa had been suspended, her reaction was to remove her Czech work experience from her resume, out of fear that “Czechs now had a bad name.”

Quite a few people are (or were back in September, but it takes a while for local news to cross the Atlantic) appalled that Alexandru Arsinel, an aging and beloved Romanian actor, has supposedly bribed doctors (or used his fame) to jump the queue for a new kidney. But isn’t the outrage itself somewhat outrageous?

Extreme division in the public opinion is not new and is not common only to Romania. What is special about our situation is how ludicrous and paranoid their claims are. In this article commenced long ago, we look at how “tunnel vision” and “excessive focus” ruins politics, and implicitly, electorates who fail to censor the politicians who succumb to it.

Mos Craciun vine in curand, dar putini dintre noi inca mai cred in el. Adresez acest articol celor care au nevoie sa li se spuna, din cand in cand, ca daca-ti imaginezi ca tot ce zboara se mananca, esti probabil tu insuti un fazan sau curcan gustos.

Desi state vecine si oarecum pretene, Canada si Statele se ciocnesc din cand in cand cap in cap. In ultima vreme a fost numai un razboi al vorbelor, dar ultima data cand s-au suparat Canadienii pe americani, i-au batut de le-a sunat apa-n cap, i-au fugarit pan-la Washington, unde au dat foc Casei Albe, transformand-o probabil in Casa Cenusie, sau, vorba poetului, de Scrum.

In restul lumii, 1 Iunie inseamna ziua copilului. Aici in Toronto, anul acesta 1 Iunie marcheaza niste evenimente mai importante decat in alti ani, cum ar fi noi reguli pentru trecerea frontierei in USA si deschidera adoptiilor.

In week-end-ul ce taman a trecut, o fundatie i-a invitat pe cei doi fosti presedinti (G. W. Bush si Bill Clinton) la o sezatoare in Toronto. Frank McKenna, fost ambasador canadian in US i-a moderat si regulat.

Un video clip recent despre Somalia - un paradis libertarian m-a distrat teribil. Libertarianismul ramane in continuare un subiect foarte prost inteles, si-aici incerc s-arunc asupra-i o lumina de opait.

Dar dupa ce in prima parte m-am uitat la Andruska si plagiatul NR, aici ne uitam la DeCe si Stash de Cafeina cat si Internerd. Mi-a fost greu sa scriu acest articol, ca nu-mi place sa fiu lup moralist, dar am promis, si n-am incotro.

Am aflat de dono de cand cu razboiul dono-putty, si de-atunci l-am citit sporadic. I-am zis ceva de biciclete si role, si-aud ca si-a luat bicicleta. Si mai aud si ca cineva cu dor de zid da in vileag o uriasa meteahna a imparatului mediocritatii.
