Am discutat recent c-o prietena despre emigratul in Canada. Am salvat logul si m-am gandit sa-l postez aici pentru oricine ar fi interesat (am schimbat numele, desigur).

A while back I had an overseas guest misbehaving. I had invited her for a longer stay in Canada but it turned out she had difficulties living without regular fights. I offered to make a reservation at a hostel and cover her costs at a hostel for the rest of her stay but she refused and I was eventually bribed to give in due to my membership affiliation.

Following Strelnikov’s suggestion and Max’ confirmation, I started listening to Balanescu Quartet. I liked it and thought that it’s worth an article. Which I started a few months ago and am completing today, especially since I have a few new/s (times).

Este greu de zis daca o duc sau nu mai bine in New York decat oriunde altundeva in Romania.

I need to commit some of my very recent memories to this blog, but precisely because everything happened so recently, I need to be even more ambiguous than usual.

Today’s the last day of Iceland’s Airwaves, which I haven’t attended or written about, but you can check out the soon-to-disappear Soma FM’s own radio station. A while back, I was having an argument (well, it’s more like I was trying to have a conversation with my designated troll, banned since) about the downside of population decline (PD). He demanded to know why is it bad (which is what I was trying to say) and I thought I provided some studies, but while searching, I was unsatisfied with the quality of the studies I had found. (The title term refers mostly to economy (i.e., population drops below the level required to carry the economy or more specifically old age pensions) whereas PD refers to demographics.) Since then, I’ve found a bit more so here it is.

Am avut recent un schimb de replici cu un vajnic si curajos luptator al luminii cu tiganii (eu mai mult am tacut, dar el probabil crede ca noi “discutam”. Cred ca merita efortul de a explica “tarsha” mea in a ma angaja in astfel de “discutii” si de ce prefer sa am o dezbatere. In plus, voi face o trimitere aici oridecate ori mai dau de-un cerebro-puradel care se teme de dezbatere dar ma agaseaza cu comentarii.

I’ve hinted before on my personal struggle with answering such philosophical questions as “where are you from?” or “where were you born.” As I started answering with “Dacia,” more and more of those asking me, unsatisfied with this answer, started to look it up. One such acquaintance, a Brazilian dude, was kind enough to let me record our conversation. So I made a movie to share it more easily (like the Jens interview).

Am aflat recent despre un test care ar deduce daca esti barbat sau femeie pe baza preferintelor tale. Asta-i genul de test care-i oripileaza pe unii (sau unele). Eu sunt insa curios sa identific diferentele. Totusi, nu vei gasi aici un test similar celui cu dreapta vs stanga.

I’m not a nationalist and though I wish my Romanian friends “La Multi Ani” for our national holiday, a small part of me is uneasy, because nationalism means association with people who share your ethnic background, some good, some bad, but in our case (and, of course, excepting those I know personally), mostly bad.
