In a recent (semi-)transatlantic flight, while reading the airline magazine, I stumbled upon a bit on courage and machismo, which contrasted sharply with Andre Gide’s preface to an Antoine de Saint-Exupery (you know, the guy who wrote Le Petit Prince) book I was also (re)-reading. Let me present it for you.

I have been staying away from the news of the moment, but this recent tragedy hits extremely close to home, whichever way a member of the Toronto Romanian diaspora (including myself) chooses to define that notion.

I just learned about two Romanian-Canadian people, mother and daughter Ana Constantin and Lisa Maria Paun being banned for life by Air Canada and left stranded without proper notice. This is not discrimination, just incredibly poor customer service and it’s an issue almost all of us have to deal with every time we fly.

We were talking about stories never told and she confessed some early childhood game she used to play. As she had never told anyone, it took her a while and lots of encouragement to write it.

This blog has a Romanian Diaspora focus, so it’s only natural to go through the diaspora news. But our diaspora is everywhere (much like protochronist Dacians), and some have even returned, while some feel “exiled” in their own country, so we’re not going to discriminate. Especially since we keep hearing bad things about Dinamo, one of the 3 major “national” soccer teams while I was growing up.

Desigur, vine vara, stai pe plaja si citesti in timp ce te umpli de melanoma, dar totusi recomandarea lui are probleme. Si eu le demasc, sa stii in ce te bagi, si sa nu te pacalesti cumparand-o. Nu ma-ntelege gresit: merita cumparata, dar daca te-astepti sa dai de porn, te pacalesti :)

Am inceput cu ciupercile si-a cam sosit mementul sa termin cu urzicile (nu-i vorba de almanahe, ci de succesuri bio-culinare). Adica sa-ti spun cum le-am venit de hac.

Ce poate fi mai existential decat aceste doua subiecte? Tratarea lor in doua filme superbe, filme care mi-au marcat dezvoltarea psiho-sexuala.

Despite this being one of the reasons I started this blog, the more I try to engage in online debates, the angrier and more unsatisfied I get. Before I decide to completely and always avoid them, it may be worth looking into why they are this way.

Quite a few people are (or were back in September, but it takes a while for local news to cross the Atlantic) appalled that Alexandru Arsinel, an aging and beloved Romanian actor, has supposedly bribed doctors (or used his fame) to jump the queue for a new kidney. But isn’t the outrage itself somewhat outrageous?

Yet another childhood photo is stirring up memories. This time is with colleagues and friends, rather than teachers.

Scriam mai demult despre cum a sarbatorit Bucurestiul ziua inghesuielii nationale. A sosit timpul sa scriu despre ambouteillage si cum sa scapi de trafic, despre asteptari, teorii de conspiratie si jetpacks.

Cum am mai spus, nu sunt foarte multumit de nivelul dezbaterilor din blogo.ro-oaie. De multe ori, dezbateri care incep bine se termina prost sau nu se termina deloc. Ce sfaturi ar putea fi oferite celor care vor sa castige cu orice pret?

Cateodata  am chef sa ma uit la clipuri de muzica, dar nu orice. Cele mai tari, cele mai populare, cele mai vizionate si top of the charts nu ma reprezinta intotdeauna, nu-mi regasesc gusturile in ele. Iata de ce aceste 40-45 clipuri ma incanta – raman cu tine o vreme..
