Iohannis the Silent v Base the Loud

Thrown (Ţâpat) in ,

When it comes to presidents, I prefer them quiet and subdued, but when I look back, I kept voting for the loud ones. I’m much like a woman who claims she’s looking for good guys but constantly ends up with bad boys. I’m not the only one, judging by the recent results of US elections. So I’m hurrying to finish this article, in a McDonald’s with non-working Wi-Fi, fueled by their free coffee promotion with only 30 minutes left to go.

Corruption and Cur-rupt-ion

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , ,

A recent Op-Ed in New York Times seems to have caused a fair amount of consternation in both Romania as well as among my diaspora friends. Ion could equally be Ion Iliescu, recently green-lighted to be re-investigated in the “Mineriada” file, Adrian Nastase, the suicidal former premier and failed presidential candidate who had become the first test case of prosecutorial overreach in the case of an elite aparatchik, or even Patrick Basham, not afraid to confront the warm, fuzzy racism/scepticism/antiziganism-fuelled consensus that Romania is “doing something”.

VS II: Nastase-Ponta-Bradisteanu-Rus

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

I have made the mistake to look at what Adrian Nastase had to say in his defense. It's quite persuasive. This document makes use of certain HTML5 tags that are presently supported only by Chrome / Chromium and make reading easier.

Butoi II. Tudorel Badea Severin. Si cu noi.

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

Unlike most of my Romanian friends, who are angered by the details of the 112/police (EMS) response to Alexandra Macesanu’s increasingly desperate calls, I am far more upset by police colonel, university professor and forensic psychologist Tudorel Badea Butoi-Severin and the inconsequential censure by CNCD following his deeply offensive, misogynistic, victim-blaming comments. I believe that the hostility and inadequacy of the police response is rooted in the attitude that Prof Butoi has expressed and this bigotry is the root cause of police inaction and incompetence.

Varujan Pambuccian is a bit too zambaccian

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

Finland, the country who is light years ahead of Romania in education, is moving away from structured learning and a Romanian Senator opines that it's BS, which, in our view, makes him a 'zambaccian' or a person who is incapable to understand his mistakes, nevermind assume them, a person whose mindset prevents them from accepting new, revolutionary ideas.

Plagia Thor. Copypasted, not modified.

Era un baiat care lua beutura “agitata, nu amestecata”. La noi, sinuciderile vanatorilor se fac cu mana gresita, iar braconajul intelectual tot cu mana altuia.

Romanian Journalism

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

A few worrisome events shed a sick light on press freedom and “deontology”, as journos like to call the ethics of their profession. In short, those in power do not respect or understand press freedom, while quite a few “journalists” and self-described bloggers do not get their role.

Hurmuzii de la Favorit si Tragedia Comunelor II

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

Continui impletita cu extrase din tragi-comedia comunitara. In prima parte ne-am uitat la copaci mai indeaproape; aici privim mai mult oamenii. Daca la inceput paralelele erau apropiate, aici sunt pe continente diferite.

#rezist in its 10th day

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , ,

Romania seems increasingly divided between the “bad teeth alliance”, pro-government and protesting against the president Iohannis, and a massive, more numerous, happily protesting dancing flash mob who won’t take “corruption is bullshit” for an answer. What irks me is that in the international media coverage, so much is lost in translation.

Adamescu II or Ivan, the American Spy

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , ,

I recently learned some interesting facts from a follow-up (by a Romanian news outfit) on the “Romanian Government attack” on the corrupt Adamescu family who is “not showing off” and it reminds me of a joke with Ivan, the American Spy.
