I just had today, on WhatsApp, a conversation with a former classmate, who posted some photos from Baile Herculane (Herculean Baths? – a touristic destination from Roman times with geothermal springs). The situation is dire. I advised her rather strongly to fight, to which she countered with the refrain I constantly hear in this situations: “you are disconnected from the Romanian reality”.

Eu nu duc lipsa de subiecte, duc lipsa de timp si de chef de scris. Totusi, raspund cu aplomb la provocarea lui FuckYouTovarasi, intitulata Romania de Cinci Stele. Raspund in principal pentru ca e trist sa-ncepi un concurs si sa nu raspunda suficienti oameni pentru cate premii ai :)

In Romanian, “firea”, the articulated form of the noun fire, is part of many idioms. A former CNSS (Sf Sava National College / High School) classmate sent me a link to an article about Horia Constantinescu (curi-interlop), asking me if I remember this guy being in our class. In Romanian, “interlop” is used to mean shady/criminal while in English it means “unwanted, persona non grata”.

Serena won and Simona lost, but this game is so much more than this result. In short it’s all a psychological thriller with some touches of physical endurance and skill, and Simona seems to have given up (video highlights: 4 min, 10 min, 34 min).
