Edgefest - July 12, Downsview Park - $80.50
Linkin Park
Edgefest 2008’s headliner, became a huge hit by combining nu metal and alternative rock with electronica and hip hop influences. On their third album, 2006’s Minutes to Midnight, they branched out further and created something even more unique. They have achieved “diamond” status in album sales, won countless awards for their songs and videos, and have made significant contributions to a variety of charities.
Stone Temple Pilots
help define 90s alternative rock. Their five albums have sold 30 million copies worldwide, and 15 of their singles reached top 10 status. Since disbanding in 2003, vocalist Scott Weiland has spent his time singing for Velvet Revolver, and the rest of Stone Temple Pilots have put out music with a variety of bands, including Talk Show and Army of Anyone. This Summer only, the members of STP are putting everything else on hold to play some shows together. Edgefest is the only confirmed Canadian date for the recently reunited foursome.
Sam Roberts'
Juno Award winning organic pop rock sound has been broadcast on radios across the country. If song titles like “Brother Down,” “Hard Road,” and “Bridge to Nowhere” don’t ring a bell now, they will when you hear them played live on June 12th. As if two nationally acclaimed full length albums weren’t enough to secure their
Canadian credibility, the Sam Roberts Band played a few songs during the intermission of an NHL game this past New Years Day.
The Bravery
New York City’s The Bravery appeals to everyone from fans of indie rock to synth-pop enthusiasts. You might remember the exchange of colourful words between The Bravery and Brandon Flowers of fellow new wave band (and Island Records labelmates) The Killers. You might want to forget The Bravery’s bassist stripping naked at the Glastonbury festival.
Ashes Divide
Former Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel formed A Perfect Circle with his boss, Maynard James Keenan. Now he’s a frontman in Ashes Divide. Joined by Josh Freese (Guns N’ Roses, Seether and many other bands) on drums and Devo Keenan (yes, James’ son) on cello, the debut album is called Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright. Watch for it in April and you can hear the single “The Stone” on the radio now.
Attack in Black
This Welland, Ontario band will also be taking the main stage at Edgefest this year. As of the release of their recent sophomore album, they are labelmates with Bedouin Soundclash, and City and Colour. Attack in Black’s blend of modern punk with classic rock earned them a CASBY Award for Favourite New Artist in 2007.
Hostage Life
Edgefest’s infamous second stage will feature punk band Hostage Life, whose first full length disc, Walking Papers, sold impressively on the strength of “This Song Was Written By a Committee” and “Songs of Hostage Life.” Riding on their widespread success after being signed to Phat Wreck Chords, Flatliners will also be present to represent Toronto punk.
Arkells
They’ve only been around since 2006, but already Arkells have taken their blues-heavy rock on the road with the likes of Tokyo Police Club, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, and Alexisonfire, all over Ontario. The 5-piece is promoting their debut EP Deadlines.
Modern Boys Modern Girls
(MBMG) blends the best of rock, pop, and indie elements. Check their website to hear their new album I Might As Well Break It.
USS
(Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker) combines familiar elements into something totally new. The vocalist/songwriter and the DJ from Toronto throw everything from drum & bass to grunge into a nice, fresh mix.
Creature
is a four-piece from Montreal that has a debut album called No Sleep At All. The group consists of Kim Ho (vocals and guitars), CowBella (vocals, keyboards and, er, cowbell), Sid Z (drums, ex of Me, Mom and Morgentaler) and Anna Ruddick (bass).
Alpha Galates
might be Toronto’s response to the current wave of hard rocking musicians stretching their songwriting abilities. The five-piece modern melodic metal outfit is promoting their debut album, A Stimulus For Reason.
The Stereohoax
is a Toronto band featuring Anthony, Bowman, Brendan and Joey. Check out their sound, MySpace-style.
Cancer Bats
brought their hardcore/metal to the Edgefest stage in 2006, after playing their CD release show with us in ’96, so of course we’re having them back. Their new one, Hail Destroyer, comes out on April 22nd.
The Coast
The Coast (singer/guitarist Ben Spurr, guitarist Ian Fosbery, bassist Luke Melchoirre, and drummer Jordan Melchiorre) have been steadily rising on the red-hot Toronto indie scene, signing to Aporia Records in 2006 on the strength of their self-titled EP and word-of-mouth about their dynamic live show. The Coast will finally release their long-awaited debut album Expatriate on April 1, 2008. The band has been touted as one of the acts to watch in 2008 by Canada’s national music monthly Exclaim! and Toronto’s Eye Weekly, thanks to the buzz that has continued to grow as the band toured extensively across North America last year.
Si-ntre timp, prietenul cu clipul de care am scris mai devreme l-a terminat. Iata-l:
Clipul e interesant, dar nu-s prea multe extras in el. Probabil daca ma duceam apaream si eu cu juma' de dovleac :)
