Canadian-Romanians banned by Air Canada

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , ,

I just learned about two Romanian-Canadian people, mother and daughter Ana Constantin and Lisa Maria Paun being banned for life by Air Canada and left stranded without proper notice. This is not discrimination, just incredibly poor customer service and it’s an issue almost all of us have to deal with every time we fly.

CaracaRimaru

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

Whereas in English "Caracal" refers to a “medium-sized wild cat”, in Romania it’s a small town, possibly named after the long disappeared animal. Recently, what may very well be a serial killer has been arrested after some agonizing, train-wreck of a police investigation. This would be the first such criminal there in a long time.

Louis CK in Cluj, Romania?

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , ,

Let us explore and make a bit of historical fun of the announcement of Louis CK stepping on Cage’s path, in Romania – a story that may be false and could possibly be fake. Most importantly, CK stands for a Hungarian name, which is why my Romanian compadres might worry that they are being invaded by the Great Hungarian Junta using Louis as a Trojan condom.

Overreactions to Simona Halep in Charlie Hebdo

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , ,

@Simona_Halep’s win is an amazing victory and an event we’ll be remembering and talking about at least until her next Grand Slam.  Sadly, it was only hours before all those hungry to for publicity started to throw shade, claim ownership and speculate it for their own nefarious ends.

Soros the Reptilian (ZE ȘOMĂNIRE)

Thrown (Ţâpat) in ,

Recently, on the WhatsApp group I share with my former classmates, one of us posted an article about Soros. I don’t know exactly why he did so – there’s a small chance he shared it because it’s such a dumb article that it’s funny, but this is a good opportunity to look at the mythology created around the boogeyman Soros. As it happens, this article would be best written in Romanian, as anyone capable to follow an article in English has already made up her mind, which is why a summary in Romanian will soon follow.

Ilie Nastase, nastier than Quagmire

Thrown (Ţâpat) in ,

I’m becoming a Nastase hater. Can’t this guy just disappear from news altogether, or realize that we’re no longer in the 50s and the 70s are over?!

Adamescu II or Ivan, the American Spy

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , ,

I recently learned some interesting facts from a follow-up (by a Romanian news outfit) on the “Romanian Government attack” on the corrupt Adamescu family who is “not showing off” and it reminds me of a joke with Ivan, the American Spy.

Cabanita lui Gliga - Kanzel, Poiana Brasov

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

Having recently come back from a trip to Calgary, a friend of mine was showing me beautiful photos of a snowy mountain, with real pine forests covered by snow, which all conjured up in my mind the image of the ski camp where I used to spend all of my winter holiday, and more, all throughout my school years in Romania.

#handshakegate: genie bouchard vs alex dulgheru

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , ,

It happened a week ago, but I needed some time to sort out my feelings. It’s complicated, because Alexandra Dulgheru is Romanian (i.e., from my native country) and Eugenie Bouchard is Canadian (i.e., from my adoptive country). Alex is nicer and a winner, Genie is a blonde, confirming the stereotypes that come with that categorization.

Agerpres and Romanian MAE Fail European Geography

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , ,

Though it may be unfair to extend the failure of the Romanian National Press Agency (Agerpres) and the Romanian External Affairs Ministry to an entire nation, let us not forget that part of their job is to represent the country. The recent faux-pas, confusing the French contours with the German one in a one-print commemorative brochure is, unfortunately, indicative of the dilettantism that has taken over the Romanian government.

yet another joke that needs explaining

Thrown (Ţâpat) in ,

As I was telling you, my sense of humour is a bit niche and, coupled with my allergy to inconsistency, it may result in comments some people may consider a "flame" or trolling. I may be turning in Fouad, the joke-explaining-Indian in Family Guy.

Poverty and IQ in BlegooVision

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , , ,

I recently got an article from our very own , who wanted to see his thoughts published and critiqued around here. It required serious formatting, but I thought it’s a free service I can provide to the second highest commenter (in terms of quantity) on this blog. My comments will be highlighted inline and concentrated at the end.

Merry Tuborg Christmas!

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , ,

Christmas is a time of forced happiness, unmet expectations - i.e., looking forward to spend some time with your family, only to end up annoyed by the same things that caused you to move out as quickly as you could if your parents are alive, or feeling unappreciated by those ungrateful earthlings if you are a parent yourself. No wonder so many of us have started to take the Festivus joke seriously!

Am I complicated?

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

(I’d place the last word of the title in quotation marks, but they’d get escaped, causing the title to look silly.) Recently, Francois Hollande, the French president who looks like a Mickey Mouse (not Victor Ponta, the real, trademarked one), allowed the press to take photos of him and his lover. I suspect the show is put on so that the French people can convince themselves that they still have a heterosexual president. "Is his lover a woman? Are you sure? Well, then we can keep drinking wine, eating cheese and live long!" Meanwhile, I'm annoyed as hell that a friend of mine won't (or pretends she does not) get my jokes.

Dacia, Gypsies and Romanistan

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , ,

I’ve hinted before on my personal struggle with answering such philosophical questions as “where are you from?” or “where were you born.” As I started answering with “Dacia,” more and more of those asking me, unsatisfied with this answer, started to look it up. One such acquaintance, a Brazilian dude, was kind enough to let me record our conversation. So I made a movie to share it more easily (like the Jens interview).

Happy Dia de (los) Muertos!

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

I hesitated for one day before writing this article and telling you this story. Maybe that's cuz here in Canada we went back to regular time, "losing" one hour.

I recently discovered a new and interesting blog. I'll present an enlightening article.

Cum to Romania

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , , , , , , , ,

@ziarul_gandul started #cometoromania on the heels of #avoidbritain
Recently, a lot of cyber-ink has been flowing re: the British xenophobia and more specifically, the fear that waves of Romanians and Bulgarians will invade Britain in search of non-existent jobs or, even worse, of welfare payments.

esti evreu! - nu ma insulta

Thrown (Ţâpat) in ,

In primul rand, nu-s – am fost botezat crestin ortodox. M-am gandit insa ca n-ar strica sa descopar de ce nu ma simt insultat – din contra! – cand cineva imi zice “esti evreu la faza asta”.

R U a Fat Arhi? Here’s how 2 lose weight!

Thrown (Ţâpat) in , ,

A weight trainer has gained weight only to lose it. His weight pinnacle was achieved on November 5 and since then it’s been dropping rapidly. Yet some fatties won’t even accept a sendup to that blog – they take it as an insult.
