I have a ton of things to do so that I can leave. However, part of the preparation is to look through local stuff and one such thing is this. The theft of a tablet in a small town, used subsequently to publish photos of the new owner, is a good opportunity to explore questions about policing, bias, antiziganism / racism and herd mentality.

I don't work for Google nor do they pay me in any way, but when I recently learned about their Google Earth Pro for Free promotion, I jumped at the opportunity to take yet another trip to my primary school and what would be the second instalment of my ”Home Alone in Bucharest” series.

I have met quite a few Germans lately. One of them told me about his happy road trip through Romania and the Moldovan Republic, and I thought his story is worth sharing here.

I just had today, on WhatsApp, a conversation with a former classmate, who posted some photos from Baile Herculane (Herculean Baths? – a touristic destination from Roman times with geothermal springs). The situation is dire. I advised her rather strongly to fight, to which she countered with the refrain I constantly hear in this situations: “you are disconnected from the Romanian reality”.

In articolul despre pasarei am adus in discutie unul dintre argumentele “primare” homofobice: Biblia si mai precis Leviticus 18:22. Acest argument a fost discutat si ras-discutat in trecut, asa ca m-am grabit sa traduc o scrisoare veche catre o comentatoare conservatoare care s-a pronuntat public impotriva homosexualitatii.
Later Edit: I am getting a lot of hits from people searching for Dr. Laura Schlessinger nude pics. For all the people coming from the United States, this article is about Dr Laura's controversial views on homosexuality (which she may have changed in the meantime). She claims in her latest book, Surviving A Shark Attack (on Land), that the photos (previously published by Hustler) were photoshopped. I do not hate her, but I think she is often wrong or misguided and I tend to believe that the photos are legit.

The initial motivation in starting this blog was telling a number of "origin" stories. Some I have already told, some I left for later, but for the most part, telling these stories is the main raison d'etre for this collection of characters (i.e., letters, numbers and strange people – the constituent parts of this blog). One of them is the story of my last year or so in Romania, a time when I lived on my own in my Drumul Taberei / Favorit apartment.

I am repeatedly getting inquiries from people who are upset that this blog isn't solely about Zamolxis, as its name might suggest to them. This shouldn't be difficult.

I just discovered a new TV series and it's awesome but you shouldn't watch it because you're not going to understand it. Only I can.

I happened to be in the area so I decided to pay the consulate a visit, not expecting to be able to vote, but hoping to learn more info about my programmed visit for my passport renewal. I didn't waste a lot of time, but in typical Romanian fashion, someone managed to use my time with info that is likely useless.

It happened a week ago, but I needed some time to sort out my feelings. It’s complicated, because Alexandra Dulgheru is Romanian (i.e., from my native country) and Eugenie Bouchard is Canadian (i.e., from my adoptive country). Alex is nicer and a winner, Genie is a blonde, confirming the stereotypes that come with that categorization.

Dupa cum am mai lasat sa se intrevada pe acest blog, sunt inglodat intr-un proces cam din 2003-2004. Tot atunci Attorney General in Ontario a fost numit cel mai tanar avocat sa fi fost vreodata in aceasta pozitie, si anume, Michael Bryant. Acest om a ucis ieri un biciclist.

With all the March 8th celebrations, I got this idea about writing an article about each important woman in my life, starting with early childhood or as far as my memories go. That would take a while.

It has recently come to my attention that today is St Andrew's day and also Scotland National Day. Tomorrow is Romania's. Or, since it’s unlikely I’ll finish this article and publish it today, subtract one day from all the temporal adverbs above. We will also learn here who put the ‘X’ in XXX.

On the subject of long-distance communications (following my recent WhatsApp-ian conversion). And then I added something a little less annoying and quite satisfying: a debating project.
