Following Strelnikov’s suggestion and Max’ confirmation, I started listening to Balanescu Quartet. I liked it and thought that it’s worth an article. Which I started a few months ago and am completing today, especially since I have a few new/s (times).

I have previously echoed on this blog news about Romanians in the #diaspora. This time, we’re discovering the story of a girl born in an #Austrian refugee camp to a Romanian mother and an (absent) Italian father, who was reborn in an aboriginal village.

A a couple of years before 1900, a Transylvanian village followed its lucky star West and moved to Alberta, in the Canadian prairies, where they (the villagers) each got a nice piece of land with quite a few strings attached.

I have been staying away from the news of the moment, but this recent tragedy hits extremely close to home, whichever way a member of the Toronto Romanian diaspora (including myself) chooses to define that notion.

One thing about population in Romania that we can all agree on is that it is in free fall. A recent article has revealed to me that, supposedly, the number of Romanians moving out of the city and into the country side is greater than the number of Romanians moving into the city.

I don’t like to adopt a nationalist stance on any day of the year and least of all when you are supposed to do so, such as on December 1, Romania’s national day. Rather than pen yet another pointless, devoid of meaning nationalist article, I’d much rather look at a few forgotten issues.

Putine sunt mancarurile din Romania pe care nu le pot gasi aici. Stateam de vorba cu cativa prieteni, majoritatea moldoveni (eu culegeam si mancam ciuperci mai mult in Bucovina), acum cateva zile si ei ar fi vrut sa mergem la cules ciuperci. Dar ciuperci gasesc la Costco de toate felurile, de la Porcini, Portabella, Shiitake si pana la Nametake (galbene) si Hiratake (oyster). O singura chestie-mi doresc si rar apuc: mancare de urzici cu usturoi si mamaliga. Dar pana acolo, hai sa vedem ce-i cu ciupercile.

I hesitated for one day before writing this article and telling you this story. Maybe that's cuz here in Canada we went back to regular time, "losing" one hour.
