Anul trecut, Romania a sarbatorit 20 de ani de la muoartea dictaturii. Si odata cu aceasta moarte, o gramada de alte stiri ne-au umbrit conacul.

M-am luat dupa putty, care imi zicea sa sparg postul precedent in doua. Uite ce-a iesit! (google.ro, base, pregatirea de retea, bancile, ungurii si aurul, designul de circuite integrate in Romania)

Aflam dintr-un ziar indian (1) dar si de la hotnews.ro ca moldovenii expulzeaza 2 diplomati romani si si-au chemat Lidia Gutu (ambasadoarea) inapoi.

Dupa lunga mea vacanta, am decis sa arunc o lapidara (are si parte a doua) privire asupra stirilor referitoare la Romania din presa streina. Ca de obicei, ma axez in principal pe economic si politic. Prima frectie care imi sare in ochi sunt semnele din ce in ce mai clare ca UE va hotari in curand sa renunte la a mai recunoaste deciziile judecatoresti ale curtilor romanesti (1). Asta ar fi o palma grea pe obrazul nostru, daca ne-a mai ramas obraz sub grosul strat de sorici.

The initial motivation in starting this blog was telling a number of "origin" stories. Some I have already told, some I left for later, but for the most part, telling these stories is the main raison d'etre for this collection of characters (i.e., letters, numbers and strange people – the constituent parts of this blog). One of them is the story of my last year or so in Romania, a time when I lived on my own in my Drumul Taberei / Favorit apartment.

Am scris recent un articol despre primul meu sarut - mai bine-zis, am publicat un eseu scris acum cativa ani pentru un curs de franceza. Daca in prima parte am descris primul meu sarut in franceza (fara sa fi fost French Kiss :), aici descriu un studiu si dau cateva sfaturi.

Dupa ce in episoadele anterioare am vorbit despre romani renumiti, orfani adoptati, supravietuitori de Holocaust si un preot, am aflat recent despre niste romani maghiari si viata lor din NY[T/C].

Stirile despre Romania din presa straina abunda, cand ochiul antrenat le cauta. Sa discutam povestea unui roman ajuns in Canada intr-un container din Italia.

Intai a venit cineva din blogroll care-mi tot ingropa articolele pe agregatoarele de stiri cu leapsa cu 7 cantece. P-orma Gogu de la Blogu' lu' Gogu arunca si el leapsa asta in directia mea (1). Si cand 2 iti zic sa canti, apuca-te bade, si scrie!

Cum probabil se stie, mancarea este mult mai ieftina in America de Nord (ca si benzina sau casele) decat in restul lumii. Azi am fost pe la Costco si m-am gandit sa v-arat ce-am luat.

Ca dupa fiecare alegere unde miza-i mare, oamenii interesati in rezultat si rezultatul strans, au aparut si vor apare acuzatii de fraudare. Eu nu cunosc exemple concrete, dar aud tot timpul de oameni care cunosc alti oameni care sunt siguri ca fraudarea s-a produs. Si-ncerc sa analizez broblemu'.

Citeam articolul cuiva despre Faust-ul lui Purcarete in care acesta (primul) se lauda ca-i ingust. Acu’ nush, asa le-o fi placand fetelor haifaiv.

It's a sad day for Ioan Pop, his family, and Romanian Christian Orthodoxy in general, but on the bright side, the abused women are finally getting some closure and Ioan Pop won’t have a chance to repeat his weird brand of sexual religiosity. As usual, I am not content with only reporting on the news; I have a few other things to say.

Today’s the last day of Iceland’s Airwaves, which I haven’t attended or written about, but you can check out the soon-to-disappear Soma FM’s own radio station. Yet today’s broadcast, boys and girls, is about something completely different. Back in 2007, when it started as a Canada-only contest, nobody could have predicted that Red Bull Thre3style (#RB3style) would grow into the largest DJ competition on the planet. This year there's a Romanian among them: DJ Undoo.

Am remarcat ca acest subiect a fost dezbatut in Romania. Taxele de proprietate sunt mult mai mari ca procent de PIB (ca sa nu mai vorbim de modul absolut) decat la noi si m-am gandit ca experienta mea personala ar putea fi interesanta in discutie. Desigur, eu vorbesc despre Toronto.

Not only did Klaus Iohannis manage to snatch victory from the claws of the Red Menace, but he did so by a huge, devastating margin AND on the surge in voter participation not only in the diaspora, but also in our birthplace. It’s a November Christmas miracle! 

I have met quite a few Germans lately. One of them told me about his happy road trip through Romania and the Moldovan Republic, and I thought his story is worth sharing here.

I really don’t have the time for this, but yet again, someone on the internets is wrong.

I just learned about two Romanian-Canadian people, mother and daughter Ana Constantin and Lisa Maria Paun being banned for life by Air Canada and left stranded without proper notice. This is not discrimination, just incredibly poor customer service and it’s an issue almost all of us have to deal with every time we fly.
