Dupa leapsa careia i-am raspuns in felul meu acum cateva zile, Catalin cel Reinventat ma provoaca la una noua. Desi in ultima vreme am dat-o-n politica mult prea mult, o preiau si p-asta.

Un crud paradox al societatilor avansate este ca pe masura ce devii economic si "free-time-wise" mai capabil de a avea copii (adica te apropii de varsta pensionarii), devii incapabil biologic. Asta-i motivul pentru care un numar atat de mare de Conservatori – inclusiv fömei – se pronunta impotriva drepturilor reproductive ale femeii (avortul) si sprijina adoptiile internationale de zici ca viata lor depinde de asta.

The current culture clash about some Norwegian child welfare agency having seized a Romanian couple’s children over physical discipline and the ensuing protests coming mostly from religious groups has a recognizable background: it’s a rehashing of the century-old conservative vs liberal quarrel. I have respect and admiration for Norway and their altruistic, enlightened and generous foreign policy and foreign aid, but this case may be more than just that.

Ma bucur sa prezint un alt punct de vedere, fie ca seamana cu-al meu, fie ca nu.

A while back, I was having an argument (well, it’s more like I was trying to have a conversation with my designated troll, banned since) about the downside of population decline (PD). He demanded to know why is it bad (which is what I was trying to say) and I thought I provided some studies, but while searching, I was unsatisfied with the quality of the studies I had found. (The title term refers mostly to economy (i.e., population drops below the level required to carry the economy or more specifically old age pensions) whereas PD refers to demographics.) Since then, I’ve found a bit more so here it is.

I’ve recently noticed a tweet that seems to indicate the Romanians are 3rd among EU countries least happy with free movement in Europe. That’s remarkable. Why would that be?

Am amanat, am tras de timp.. Nu mai am scapare: ii raspund lui Alphadog, c-asa-i cinstit! Adica, nu se mai poate, ma-ntelegi?!? Cu-atat mai mult cu cat vad ca si Zizzou s-a-ntors din preumblari si mi-a raspuns la dezbaterea cu Parlamentu’.

The title means “Romanians vote anticorruption”, but then I realized that Romanians know what happened, it’s foreigners who might be more interested in what I have to say about it. I wish I could write a celebratory article, but I can't. Most Romanians who lined up seem to think that they are voting against corruption, but have they really?
