It's a sad day for Ioan Pop, his family, and Romanian Christian Orthodoxy in general, but on the bright side, the abused women are finally getting some closure and Ioan Pop won’t have a chance to repeat his weird brand of sexual religiosity. As usual, I am not content with only reporting on the news; I have a few other things to say.

Ioan Pop, the priest with the All Saints Romanian Orthodox Church was just charged with sexual assault at church. Apparently, a woman barely escaped only after a couple walked in on what was going on.

After writing about the sexual assault complaint about Ioan Pop on September 13, I was even considering going to the October 15 court appearance. It turns out that a court appearance has already taken place before I had a chance to wake up (and I’m still on antibiotics).

There are two subjects that seem to dominate the Romanian public sphere (I would say blogo.ro-oaie, but that's defunct): the religion choice in schools and the New York Times Op-Ed on corruption in Romania. I’m very tempted to make a nice hot stew out of both, but I’ll try to keep each to its own article.

Desi poate n-ar trebui, ma surprinde viteza cu care se propaga orice meme occidentala, si in special cele stupide. Ce-i emo? Daca articolul lui Bogdan nu te-a edificat, am sa-ncerc sa fac asta aici.

Nu ma refer la un test de personalitate din Cosmo. Un studiu recent dat publicitatii stabileste o legatura clara intre gusturile in muzica si personalitate. Cercetatorii intentioneaza sa duca studiul pe Internet.

One thing about population in Romania that we can all agree on is that it is in free fall. A recent article has revealed to me that, supposedly, the number of Romanians moving out of the city and into the country side is greater than the number of Romanians moving into the city.

Mentionam in RSC, punctualitatea romaneasca si Oblio concertul RSC de iarna, care intre timp a avut loc pe 14 Decembrie. Am navigat printre colinde, partituri si recitaluri pentru a face un mic colaj de simtire, incluzand atat video clipuri youtube, cat si poze.

This could very well be a paid post, but it's not (unless you consider a free concert and a couple of Pepsi bottles as 'payment'). I was just passing by their tent and the music caught my ear; I enjoyed it while watching a cover of Talking Heads (Psycho Killer). All in all, a great opportunity to reminisce on what Pepsi meant in my childhood.

Whereas in English "Caracal" refers to a “medium-sized wild cat”, in Romania it’s a small town, possibly named after the long disappeared animal. Recently, what may very well be a serial killer has been arrested after some agonizing, train-wreck of a police investigation. This would be the first such criminal there in a long time.

Este in curs de desfasurare un "Salon Funerar" la Romexpo, plin de sicrie "tunate" pentru toti marii meseriasi care si-ar fi dorit sa moara-n Sapanta (2), dar n-au avut bani de tren sau nu le-aveau cu geografia. N-am poze de-acolo, dar am cateva idei de sicrie vesele.

Un ziar local din Pennsylvania descrie pe cateva pagini, in amanuntime, povestea unui preot imigrant. Daca ei pot atat, pot si eu cateva paragrafe, nu?

I just had today, on WhatsApp, a conversation with a former classmate, who posted some photos from Baile Herculane (Herculean Baths? – a touristic destination from Roman times with geothermal springs). The situation is dire. I advised her rather strongly to fight, to which she countered with the refrain I constantly hear in this situations: “you are disconnected from the Romanian reality”.
