I just learned of two significant Romanian movie events in Toronto: Porumboiu's Whistlers is having its (wide?) release and TIFF a "survey" of 50 years of Romanian Cinema.

I haven’t been able to find many movies with by Romanians or about Romanians at TIFF 19 (Toronto International Film Festival) I thought I mention them before the Festival is over.

There was a time when talking about TIFF meant an image. Then, starting around 1975, it meant the Toronto International Film Festival. Then Romania thought that copying this name is OK, and now I find that I have to differentiate between tiff.ro and tiff.net. Here we are simply listing the Romanian movies at TIFF.net (in Toronto).

Though the premise is not original (Weird Science 1985, s1m0ne 2002, Pixel Perfect 2004, or Pygmalion, Pinocchio and Frankenstein) and this is a Hollywood, almost Disney movie to its core, the treatment is not that bad - it's actually quite refreshing. Here’s the trailer.

I'm not sure how and why I ended up watching two movies in one evening, but I did. Maybe it was a need to procrastinate, maybe it was the "monster storm" that shut down New York and was raging outside.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year and, as the poster suggests, it is quite “pulpy”.

Dupa oaresce framantari si emotii, aflam ca Festivalul Filmului Romanesc din Toronto va avea totusi loc, dar mai tarziu. Pre-Festival screening incepe maine, Sambata, 16/04/2011.

Timpul petrecut in scoala nu este singura inovatie KIPP. Ajungem in sfarsit la partea finala, partea care pune capac prezentarii. Nu pierde video-clip-ul cu divergent thinking!

dupa kubrik, vederile si editura, noi [c/t]lonii atacam cu vilanii favi. mai precis, peste 20 de blogari isi prezinta ticalosii preferati.

Saracan de mine, incepe festivalul si eu inca n-am reusit sa ma dumiresc la ce filme vreau sa merg. Bine ca s-a dumirit Romania ce film trimite la Oscarul 2011.

Acum, ca tot am vorbit atata despre moarte, moaste si capete de maori, a mai ramas sa va povestesc despre japonezi si ritualurile lor de intampinare a mortii, asa cum sunt prezentate in castigatorul Oscarului 2009.

Ca tot am descoperit eseurile mele vechi de franceza, am decis sa (re)public si o critica de film facuta in acei domoli ani '90. E tot in franceza si ca si celelalte, textul e plin de greseli pe care nu mai stau sa le corectez.

Rezultatele sau castigatorii premiilor Oscar sunt bine cunoscuti. Ce ma intereseaza pe mine este rolul spam-ului in rezultate. Si-asta fiindca-i 8 Martie, ziua femeii.

Concertul de Craciun si Nightlosers redivivus..

Asa cum ziceam, am fost sa votez la consulat. Unde am gasit romani, am stat de vorba cu ei (lucru bun) si m-am enervat asteptandu-mi docomentele (lucru mai putin bun).

Am fost miercuri la Art Galery of Ontario (sau, in celalalta limba uoficiala, Musee des beaux-arts de l'Ontario) si m-am ciocnit iar de imbecilism constipat, desi de asta incercam sa scap. Si-astazi tlön ma love-ste cu un articol despre Mihail Sebastian si Eliade.

In restul lumii, 1 Iunie inseamna ziua copilului. Aici in Toronto, anul acesta 1 Iunie marcheaza niste evenimente mai importante decat in alti ani, cum ar fi noi reguli pentru trecerea frontierei in USA si deschidera adoptiilor.

Am avut un week-end destul de plin, si ca de obicei, mi-au iesit numai 30% din chestiile pe care mi le-am dorit.
