I recently engaged with Krossfire in what could eventually become a debate and thought expanding upon that might be useful to a casual reader and purveyor of truthiness. Taking a break from my memories has suddenly become somewhat appropriate.

One question I keep getting on this blog despite having answered it more than once is why did I start it. Since I keep getting it, there's a good chance that the answers given so far have been unsatisfying (or invisible to the reader). So here's another attempt at an explanation especially now that even the Ontario Legislature has observed Romania’s National Day and BI thought of coming up with this challenge (i.e., why are you proud of being part of the blogo.ro-oaie).

Despite this being one of the reasons I started this blog, the more I try to engage in online debates, the angrier and more unsatisfied I get. Before I decide to completely and always avoid them, it may be worth looking into why they are this way.

As I’ve been getting closer to a long-planned trip to Europe, I had to face the prospect of more hostility and less-than-enlightened assumptions related to my ancestry. I am quite tired of going through that and have been preparing to start answering the question “where are you from” with “Dacia” – and will be doing so starting tomorrow. With this article, I will answer the follow-up “isn’t Dacia a car?” or “what is that?” or “where is that?” with “look it up!”

The most important debating tournament in Romania took place at the “Mihai Viteazu” high-school and the reporter summarized a debate with a BIRT on whether the Romanian government should provide reparations to the Roma community for the Holocaust. This is worth a discussion.

Orice om opinionat ajunge sa se confrunte, mai devreme sau mai tarziu, cu dileme, dezbateri, discutii sau polemici care nu merita efortul. Intrebarea intrebatoare este, desigur, ce merita efortul, cum deosebesti ce merita de ce nu merita, si daca nu cumva se poate intampla sa sari astfel peste o chestie care merita efortul.

There is open season on Viorica Dancila, the losing presidential candidate from PSD and former prime-minister of Romania. Today, Monday, she has even renounced the leadership of Socialist PSD, until not long ago the main Romanian party. Blegoo, previously profiled and published here, took some time off from shovelling to write an article for this blog, as a guest. I’m publishing it here as encouragement (longer version), with the spelling mistakes left uncorrected but listed at the end, and also detailing there the formatting work I (still) had to do.

I wasn’t planning to write about this game, even though it impressed me and it’s the biggest victory in Romanian tennis. But my Internet is off right now, it will take a while to restore and between writing this article and playing some silly games, writing wins.

Am tot amanat sa scriu despre Geoana, intrucat nu-i ceva pozitiv iar el n-o duce tocmai bine. Iata ca-n final am reusit cu chiu, cu vai, sa-mi vantur ideile pe pajistea propriului blog, m-apropii de ceea ce ar trebui sa fie finalul, cu exceptia cazului in care iese si asta prea lung si tre' sa-l mai sparg in cateva articole. Cam asta-i partea finala a raspunsului meu la articolul lui AlphaDog, dupa ce am vorbit despre despotismu' lu' Base in prima parte, am raspuns apoi punct cu punct argumentelor sale intr-a doua, si-ntr-a treia am descris Romania ideala, de care cred ca Base ne apropie mai mult.

Though inordinate, this childhood memory was quite far from being an extraordinary event, and as such, I wasn't going to write about it. But a recent, excellent article but this quasi-famous disciple of an even more famous philosopher caused me to reconsider and share this story with you.

As shown in results, in the runoff, Romanians will get to choose between Iohannis and Ponta. Am prezentat intr-un articol precedent cele 38 de modalitati de a castiga o dezbatere. Ceea ce n-am spus foarte clar (poate pentru ca mi-am dorit sa-mi spuna cineva, poate pentru ca eu insumi nu stiam) este ca de fapt acestea sunt o sinteza a unui eseu al lui Schopenhauer.

Taman cand incepusem spornic sa-mi pun in aplicare diabolicul plan de a-mi reduce participarea in blogo.ro-oaie, Mircea Popescu ma intarata si atata din sfarcuri catre o dezbatere pe tema schimbarii climatice globale, sau, cum ii spune el, incalzirea globala.

Viata este un sir de experiente. Aici e cine sunt, in ce scop, si ce-am facut in ultimii cinci (zeci de) ani. Cat mai pe larg, narcisist si pe-ntelesul tutulor, in 2 sau mai multe parti. Asta ar fi prima.
